🤝🏼Collaboration in Action
🌍 On 24-25 November, the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI), with the support from the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), organized in Madrid a joint workshop between the European AGROECOLOGY Partnership and the European Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area (PRIMA).
The workshop aimed to identify the main research gaps and scientific needs related to agroecological transitions in Mediterranean countries 🌱. The results will be key for updating the initiative’s Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA), which will guide future work streams and funding on agroecology in Europe 💡.
The event was opened by the Director of AEI, José Manuel Fernández de Labastida, followed by an introduction of the objectives presented by Florence Jacquet (co-coordinator AGROECOLOGY).
After setting the scene, Octavi Quintana, Director of PRIMA, gave an overview of the projects financed under the PRIMA Partnership.
🤝 The meeting brought together representatives of PRIMA-funded projects in themed sessions focused on five priority areas:
valorization of local varieties 🌾
livestock farming 🐑
soil conservation 🌍
pest management 🐞
Living Labs 🧪
Each session included brief presentations of outstanding projects such as FIGGEN, MEDPONESTONE, PASTINNOVA, ConServeTerra, CAMA, PLANT-B, INTOMED, SUSTAINOLIVE and Quinoa4Med, among others. These presentations formed the basis for discussion and the joint identification of research and development priorities.
✅ The workshop concluded with a summary of the main findings, key implementation needs, and next steps. The conclusions were presented by Benjamín Sánchez (AGROECOLOGY) and Octavi Quintana (PRIMA), who emphasized the importance of strengthening collaborative research and advancing toward more sustainable, resilient and innovative agricultural systems in the Mediterranean region 🌿.
